Luis Enrique: The first half of the season has been positive

The manager is content with his side’s performance at the halfway point of the campaign following the 4-0 win over Eibar

FC Barcelona ended the first half of the league season with a 4-0 win over Eibar on Sunday at Ipurua, and manager Luis Enrique is happy with the team’s showing so far in the campaign.

Speaking immediately after his side’s victory, the Asturian said that the “balance of the first round (of the season) is positive, we are in a position to fight for all of the titles”.

Below are the comments made by Luis Enrique in the press room after the game:

“We knew about Eibar’s threat, the start of the match was tough with them coming close to scoring against us. But we defended well and when we withstood this pressure, we were able to benefit from their high pressure.”

“The bad news is the injury to Busquets, but it doesn’t seem serious. Tomorrow he will undergo more tests.”

“We have given competitive playing time to players who will be important and we have rested players who have played many games.”

“We leave with a great result, with a great end to the first and second half.”

“I liked Rakitic in the defensive midfield position, he was particularly good. As were Arda and Denis. It is the area of the pitch that we have the most options, everyone offers something beneficial.”

“The balance of the first round (of the season) is positive. It could always be better but we are in a position to fight for all of the titles”.

“We are used to seeing two right-footed players in central defence in the majority of teams but today we played with two left-footers. Umtiti has played as a right centre-back various times, he controls that position well.”

“To cover for Busquets I have many options: Sergi Roberto, Rakitic, André Gomes, Mascherano..."

“I saw a strong Eibar and they deservedly are where they are in the league.”
