Another important win for Barça away to Valdepeñas (2-4) that further consolidates their lead in the domestic league. Pito (2), Sergio González and Touré scored the goals to help Javi Rodríguez's side come away with a very valuable victory with just three gameweeks to go in the regular phase of the league.
All square
Barça came out of the blocks fast, as Catela fired in a few dangerous efforts, while Touré also had a good chance on transition. All the same, Valdepeñas struck first, making the most of a mistake when the visitors were playing out to go 1-0 up in the sixth minute.
The goal forced the blaugranes to push up, but Pato was unperturbed in the home side goal. Erick had a very clear cut chance after a counterattack that the keeper diverted for a corner and Matheus also went close with two efforts. Dídac also came to the fore for his side to keep them in the game with two fine saves. Barça grew in attack as the game went on and finally got the equaliser, Pito regaining possession to beat Pato to make it 1-1 after 14 minutes. Catela also went close to scoring into the top corner just before halftime.
Show of strength
After the break, Barça quickly turned the game in their favour, as Sergio González finished an attack to make it 1-2 after 25 minutes, before Touré extended the lead a minute later, finishing well in a one-on-one with Pato (1-3, min 26).
It looked like the blaugranes had everything sewn up, but Matheus was sent off to leave the team a player short. Valdepeñas made the most of their advantage with a goal by Carrasco (2-3, min 33) and the final part of the match saw the blaugrana goal come under real pressure. However, Dídac proved decisive with various important saves to keep his team ahead, ably assisted by Sergio González who cleared an effort off the line.
The home side were now in all out attacking mode, but the final blow to their hopes of a comeback came soon after, as Pito showed great quality to make it 2-4 after 39 minutes to confirm victory.
