FC Barcelona are into the Champions League quarter-finals following their 7-2 win at Spotify Camp Nou over Newcastle United in the second leg of their last 16 tie. An intense first half saw Lamine Yamal's penalty on the stroke of half time give Barça a 3-2 lead before a wonderful second half sealed an 8-3 aggregate win.
Before the press after the game, Barça coach Hansi Flick said his team "did magnificently well in the second half", before adding: "The first half was really tough and the third for us helped us a lot. At half time we said that the solution was to play on the front foot and play our game. We did that in the second half and I am very happy."
As always, however, the German coach found areas in which his side can improve: "We will look at the game and see in which aspects we have to improve. In defence we have to fix things, we know that, but in the second half we were much better."
Hansi Flick appeared particularly happy with his young players. "I liked their confidence in the second half. We have a youthful team and for me it's fantastic to see how they are are getting better and how they try to improve in each game," revealed the coach.
His team's attitude also received compliments: "The mentality that they have is that they love to compete. La Masia has done a fantastic job because the most important thing is that competitiveness, and they have it."
Finally, asked whether he sees his Barça team as one of the favourites for the Champions League, he replied: "This is the Champions League and there are no easy games. We have to take it one step at a time."
