It was no ordinary Wednesday for Aitana Bonmatí. The three-time Ballon d’Or winner collected Spain’s National Prize for Sports this morning at the Palacio Real de El Pardo in Madrid,. The award honours athletes for their excellence and contribution to promoting sport.
The Barça midfielder received the Queen Letizia Award for Best Female Athlete of 2023 from King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, the president of the Spanish High Council for Sport, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, and the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, Milagros Tolón.
Lamine Yamal, the other award winner
Lamine Yamal was the other FC Barcelona representative to be honoured, although the forward was unable to attend the ceremony in Madrid. He was awarded the King Juan Carlos Prize for 2024.
Representing FC Barcelona at the event were vice-president and secretary Josep Cubells and Football Area coordinator Bojan Krkić, who collected the award on Lamine’s behalf.
