Frenkie de Jong just keeps clocking up minutes in the Barça shirt. In the clash against Real Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere, the midfielder reached 264 official appearances for the team across all competitions. It’s a special number, as he has now matched Ronald Koeman as the second Dutchman with the most games for the club.

Last season, which saw him break into the Top 5, and by the end of it he was ranked third. And now, right at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, he has joined Barça legend Koeman, also a former team manager, in second.

Seventh season at Barça

It’s now seven years since De Jong joined the club. He arrived in the summer of 2019 from Ajax Amsterdam. Now 28 years old has truly sealed his place as one of the most essential cogs in the Barça machine, an ever-present under every coach he has played under.

Cocu, the next target

Now, only one compatriot remains ahead of him: Phillip Cocu. The former Eindhoven-born player turned out for Barça between 1998 and 2004, amassing a total of 292 games. That means De Jong needs just 28 more appearances to catch him — something that could well happen this very season, making him the Dutchman with the very most games ever for the team.
