FC Barcelona’s first team continues to receive accolades for their outstanding 2024/25 season. This time it’s the turn of head coach Hansi Flick, who on 22 September will be in the running to be named Coach of the Year (the prestigious Johan Cruyff Trophy) at the Ballon d’Or gala, organised by France Football magazine.

Flick’s rivals for the award are Luis Enrique (Paris Saint-Germain), Enzo Maresca (Chelsea), Antonio Conte (Napoli), and Arne Slot (Liverpool).

First year at Barça

The 2024/25 campaign was his first at the helm of the Barça squad—and without a doubt, it was an extraordinary season. His team secured the domestic treble, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. On top of that, he implemented an attractive, eye-catching style of football that won over fans and neutrals alike. All of which has earned him this nomination for one of football’s most prestigious coaching awards.

Two previous winners

The Johan Cruyff Trophy has been awarded since 2010, although it was not presented between 2016 and 2023. FC Barcelona has won it twice. Pep Guardiola was the first Barça coach to claim the prize, in 2011, followed by Luis Enrique in 2015. On 22 September, we’ll find out whether Flick will become the next Barça boss to be crowned Coach of the Year.
