The fourth Clásico outside of Spain

The fourth Clásico outside of Spain

The clash between Real Madrid and Barça will be the fourth to be played outside of Spain

There are no two ways about it, a Clásico is welcome any time. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are to meet again this summer for a game in Las Vegas on July 23, one of the four that the Catalans will play on their US tour.

The Las Vegas game will be the fourth Clásico played outside Spain and the second in the USA. The previous match was in 2017 in the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Barça winning 3-2.

The most recent Clásico abroad was this year on January 12 when Real Madrid won 3-2 in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal, the only time the clubs have played a competitive fixture abroad.

First Clásico abroad played in Venezuela

The sides first met outside of Spain in 1982 in a game was played in Barquisimeto (Venezuela) as part of the Copa Presidente de la República.

The four team friendly tournament was set up for the Clásico to be the final but both Barça and Real Madrid lost their respective semi-finals.

FC Barcelona drew 2-2 with Porto in their semi final, Carrasco and Esteban scoring the goals, and then lost on penalties. Meanwhile, Real Madrid lost to Inter Milan. A third and fourth place playoff game wasn't originally planned, but the organisers quickly arranged one to give the fans the game they most wanted to see. Real Madrid won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Vicente del Bosque.

249 competitive Clásicos

Real Madrid and Barça have played 249 competitive games so far. The last match was in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, with Barça winning 0-4, Aubameyang (2), Araujo and Ferran Torres scoring the goals. Real Madrid are slightly ahead in the head-to-head, with 100 wins compared to 97 for Barça, the remaining 52 competitive Clásicos ending in draws.
