Barça Women 7-0 Eibar Women: Absolutely relentless

Barça dominate the game at Estadi Johan Cruyff, scoring seven goals without reply

It’s now 20 wins in 20 league games. The crowd of 3,664 at the Estadi Johan Cruyff were treated to another impressive, dominant performance from Barca Women, this time winning 7-0 against Eibar Women in the Liga Iberdrola. Melanie Serrano received a commemorative jersey to celebrate her 500 appearances for the Club prior to the match.

Coach Jonatan Giráldez left top scorers Martens and Oshoala on the bench, along with regular starter Rolfo. The lineup was still very attacking, particularly with Engen covering at centre back. Aitana was available after a month out injured.

Fast start to take control

The first half saw a clear tactic of using the flanks and flooding the box. Melanie Serrano tucked in from the left to allow Leila lots of space, supported by Mapi Leon pushing up from centre back. The opposite side saw the pairing of Marta and Hansen causing problems for Eibar down the right and it was Marta who opened the scoring with a great chest down and volley from just inside the area after 8 minutes.

The goals kept coming. Pina headed in a precise second just 3 minutes later before Marta again scored the third, sniffing out an opportunity after a rebound from Jenni Hermoso. 'Mapi' Leon and Leila both scored from shots inside the area after rebounds to make it 5-0 by the 27th minute. A dominant first half with 13 chances created and 84% possession. Barca were passing quickly and winning second balls to give Eibar no chance.

Second half subs, Aitana returns

The second half carried on in the same vein as Melanie Serrano scored from a Hansen cross in the 52nd minute. Jenni Hermoso - who deserved a goal in the game - was then ruled offside after scoring from a header. Coach Jonatan Giráldez then rang the changes with Rolfo and Martens coming on for Mapi Leon and Hansen, with Melanie dropping into defence alongside Engen. Further changes saw Aitana and Oshoala come on for Patri and Alexia.

A mix up in the Eibar defence in the 73rd minute saw Oshoala and Jenni Hermoso both have shots saved. Molina then came on for Marta and Eibar were lucky not to concede an own goal moments later, just prior to their first shot on target after 84 minutes - straight at Palos. Barca’s shot count was 21 at the time.

There was still time for an Oshoala header from a corner which was saved, before both Martens and Aitana fired over. The final goal came on 87 minutes as Rolfo crossed from the left, Martens teed up Aitana, who steered a shot into the left corner of the goal. A comfortable win for the runaway leaders. Força Barça!
