Braithwaite ready to keep shining

Danish striker turns 29 days and is set to play a key role in the rapid run-in to the end of the season

This Friday Martin Braithwaite is celebrating his first birthday as a Barça player, and his 29th in total, just one week before Barça finally get back out on the pitch for the game away to Mallorca (June 13 at 10.00pm CET).

The Dane arrived at the club from Leganés on February 20 to offer cover for the injured Ousmane Dembélé and Luis Suárez in the attack. He made his debut just five days later against Eibar, playing a key role in the fourth and fifth goals in a 5-0 win.

He also featured in the next game at the Santiago Bernabéu and got his first start against Real Sociedad, being replaced with 12 minutes to go.

And so far, that’s the end of the story because La Liga would then be interrupted by the Covid-19 crisis, and Braithwaite’s rapid adaptation would have to wait.

That’s until now. There are 11 league games to go and with the whole schedule being completed in little more than a month, teams are going to be pressed to the limit as far as playing resources are concerned. Everyone is going to be needed, and as an exceptional measure, up to five changes a game will be permitted!

Braithwaite has been speaking to the press regularly throughout lockdown and tells us that he has never felt better. Happy birthday, Martin, and we look forward to seeing you back out there in a Barça shirt!
