Leo Messi and Ter Stegen are in contention for three of the eight 'The Best' awards on offer this year. The former is one of the finalists in the Best Player category, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) and Virgil van Dijkt (Liverpool). He is also a candidate for the Puskas award for Best Goal, for his strike at the Benito Villamarín against Real Betis last season. The other goals in the category are those scored by Juan Fernando Quintero (River Plate) against Racing Club and Daniel Zsori (Debrecen) against Ferencváros.
Ter Stegen is among the final three in the Best Goalkeeper category, which will be contested between the German, Alisson Becker (Liverpool) and Ederson Moraes (Manchester City). The awards ceremony will be held at Milan's Teatro all Scala on 23 September.
