Montoya called up for Spain friendly

Martín Montoya has been called up into Spain’s squad for next Wednesday’s friendly against Panama by Vicente del Bosque. Montoya is one of eight Barça players in the squad, alongside Valdés, Alba, Busquets, Iniesta, Cesc, Pedro and Villa, whilst Xavi and Piqué, who has recently returned from injury, and Carles Puyol, have been omitted.

This is the second time Montoya has been called up for the full Spanish side, after he was named in the squad to play against Chile in a friendly and Lichtenstein in a World Cup qualifier in September 2011, though he didn’t play in either game.

Four more internationals

Four other Barça players have also been called up for their national sides next week: Leo Messi and Javier Mascherano are in the Argentine squad to face Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, Alexis will travel to Switzerland for Chile’s game against Serbia and Dani Alves is with Brazil for the game against Colombia in New Jersey.

Barça B’s Portuguese players will also be in action with Gustavo Ledes called up for the Under-21 game against Scotland, whilst  Agostinho Cá and Edgar Ié will be with the under 20s for the game against Mali.
