Leo Messi picked up an injury during the match against Almería this afternoon. The FC Barcelona forward sustained an injury to the biceps femoris in his right thigh and he will undergo additional tests on Sunday to determine the severity of his injury. Messi scored the opening goal of the match on 20 minutes when he linked up with Pedro on the edge of the area and rifled the ball into Almería’s goal. Minutes later, Barça’s No10 requested to be subbed off, Xavi came on in his stead on 28 minutes.
It’s worth noting that Barça will play away to Celtic Glasgow on Tuesday in the second match of the Champions League group stage.
Counting his goal against Almería, Messi has featured in nine official matches for Barça this season and he’s netted 11 goals. The only match he’s missed this season was the Málaga-Barça game. He wasn’t named to the squad as a precaution due to a knock he received in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup.
