Neymar already surpasses his goal total for all of last season

With his double against Elche, the Brazilian’s 16 goals on the season are more than he had last year and in 21 fewer games

A year and a half after his arrival, Neymar is emerging as one of the team’s key players based on his goal scoring success. With two goals in Barça’s 5-0 Spanish Cup win over Elche, the Barça forward exceeds his total of 15 goals from last season. The Brazilian now has 16 goals in just 20 games.

"I am very pleased with my scoring and that I have been able to help the team," Neymar said after the game. The striker, who has already surpassed last year's league totals with 11 goals, also scored in the UEFA Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, plus his last two in the Spanish Cup against Elche. In fact, along with Messi, Sandro, and Suárez, Messi is the fourth Barça forward to have scored in all three official competitions.

Last year Neymar played a total of 41 games and scored 15 goals; nine league goals, four in the Champions League, one in the Spanish Cup, and last season’s goal at the Vicente Calderón that handed Tata Martino’s squad the Spanish Super Cup.
