Leo Messi got 41.33% of the votes, while Cristiano Ronaldo was second with 27.33% and Neymar Jr had 7.86%

The details of Leo Messi’s fifth Ballon d’Or have been published, and it turns out it was quite a convincing victory. The Argentinian collected 41.33% of the votes, while second placed Cristiano Ronaldo had 27.76% and Neymar Jr 7.86%.

Of the 23 nominees, four Barça players made it into the top ten. Apart from Messi and Neymar Jr, Luis Suárez was fifth with 3.38% of the votes and Andrés Iniesta was ninth with 1.24%. We also find Mascherano fourteenth with 0.79% and Rakitic twenty-third with 0.05%.

Leo Messi, Neymar Jr and Arda Turan, as national captains of Argentina, Brazil and Turkey, were all eligible to vote. The eventual winner chose Neymar Jr, Luis Suárez and Andrés Iniesta; the Brazilian went for Messi, Suárez and Rakitic, and the Turk also picked a trio of club colleagues in Messi, Neymar i Suárez.

There were other former FCB voters. Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, now manager of Argentina, picked three of his national squad, Messi, Agüero and Mascherano; while Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic named the complete Barça trident of Messi, Suárez, and Neymar Jr. Patrick Kluivert, manager of Curaçao ar the time of voting, voted for Neymar Jr, Suárez and Lewandowski. Jorge Sampaoli, manager of Chile and nominated for the award eventually won by Luis Enrique, also voted for Messi, along with two compatriots in Alexis Sánchez and Arturo Vidal. Spain manager Vicente del Bosque chose Messi, Ronaldo and Iniesta.
