It might be a new year, but Barça Women continue to rack up the victories in the Liga F. That's now 14 wins out of 14 games, the latest coming against Sevilla (4-0) at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, a game they controlled throughout, with Oshoala, Pina and Salma Paralluelo (2) scoring the goals.
After having to wait for over two weeks since the previous game, the 5,098 fans in the stadium were again treated to a fine display from Jonatan Giráldez' side, easily keeping the Andalusian side at bay.
Barça controlled the game from the outset, maintaining possession and setting the pace, and despite Sevilla's defence being positioned well, it didn't take long for Oshoala to latch onto a Pina through ball and smash the ball into the net (1-0, min 11). The next goal came after 34 minutes, Clàudia Pina breaking forward, showing nifty footwork to set Oshoala free who cut the ball back for Pina to side-foot home for her sixth goal in the league this season. The Catalan could have added a further goal but her late first half penalty unfortunately struck the left post and bounced wide.
The 2-0 scoreline was already looking a tough task for Sevilla, but second-half substitute Salma Paralluelo made sure of the result by scoring within 6 minutes of coming on, powerfully finishing a left footed shot into the roof of the net after clever build up play. She then grabbed her brace 6 minutes from time, finishing substitute Aitana's left foot cross from inside the 6 yard box to make it 4-0. The only downside was an injury to Ingrid Engen, who came on in the 76th minute but unfortunately had to leave the pitch only four minutes later.
All in all a resounding victory to start 2023 for Barça Women, who have a hectic month ahead including fixtures in the Super Cup and the Copa de la Reina. In fact, their next match is in the cup competition, a last 16 tie against Osasuna on Tuesday 10 January at the Instalaciones Deportivas de Tajonar, kick off 8.45pm CET.
