Marlon Santos: Debut at Celtic was incredible

The 21 year old Brazilian centre back came on in the 72nd minute in place of Piqué to make his first official appearance for Barça

Marlon Santos was one the names to come out of the clash between Celtic and Barça in Glasgow. The 21 year old Brazilian came on after 72 minutes to replace Gerard Piqué and make his official debut with the Barça first team. After the game he admitted “making my debut at Celtic was incredible.” He went on: “I still can’t believe it, it was a dream debut.”

The youngster confessed he was ‘nervous’ before making his way out on to the field but that Luis Enrique had told him: “ Go out there and do what you have been doing with the B team.” With a smile from ear to ear, Marlon revealed: “I’ll take away this shirt, get my team mates to sign it and then hang it on the wall.”

Other Barça players' comments after the game:

Javier Mascherano

“We came to get to the last 16 and thanks to the draw for Man City, we top the group. Now, it is time to focus on the league.”

“In the two games against Málaga and Celtic we have been sold but sometimes the ball goes in and others it doesn’t.”

“Messi, Suárez and Neymar are top quality players, the best you could find in the world and when they are on form they come together and do things like today.”

Jordi Alba

“I was able to start today and I am happy for my performance and that of the team as a whole.”

“Messi, Suárez and Neymar are three great players and they give us that bit extra. Suárez and Neymar can win games and Messi is the best in the world by a long way. We are stronger with Messi on the field.”

“It was a tough in a great atmosphere. It’s admirable that the fans kept cheering their team on when they were losing. The Celtic fans were impressive.”

Sergio Busquets

“It was a tough group and we knew that possibly it would go to the last game. But we have done our jobs and we are through with a game to go.”

“We know we have the three best strikers in the world, and the more passes Messi gets the better and the more chance we have of winning matches. All our game goes through him (Leo Messi). He is the most dangerous player.”
