Luis Enrique: We could have won by more

Match report: Barça 4 Valencia 2 Video Highlights

Barça brushed aside the challenge of Valencia with a 4-2 victory at Camp Nou thanks to a brace from Leo Messi and one each from Luis Suárez and André Gomes. After the game coach, Luis Enrique Martínez in his press conference said that his team “had been the better side in a deserved victory with a margin of victory that could have been greater.”

The blaugrana boss continued: “It was a complete performance that had a bit of everything. We did well against a side who sit back, getting players into the box and we created a lot of chances, especially in the first half.

Valencia are a team who always makes it difficult for us but we have been patient and it was not until the end that we were able to kill the game off.”

On the approach of the visitors to Camp Nou, Luis Enrique explained: “When your opponents decide to sit back and they have quick players out wide, it’s only natural that they have the odd counter, but we pressed well when we lost it. Set pieces? That’s football, a team can have 100 corners without scoring or they can have three and score from all of them.”

Barça once again played with a 3-4-3 formation but the coach revealed that this was not set in stone from now on. “We will go back to 4-3-3 at some point in the campaign but the option of 3-4-3 is an interesting one. We could always use another system. With this one [3-4-3] you take risks but the important things is to get the most out of the players regardless of the system,” reasoned Luis Enrique.

The Asturian coach had words of praise for André Gomes who scored his first goal for Barça against his former club. “André brings together a lot of qualities, he has lots of potential and there will be great years for him at Barça. He will be an important player for the Club in the future,” concluded Luis Enrique.
