Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Signal Iduna Park was not too severe a blow for Hansi Flick and his team as they still progressed to the Champions League semi-finals, but it does mean they can no longer boast that they have not been beaten in 2025.
Nobody is weeping too much. After all, not only are they just two games away from the final, but they are into the final of the Copa del Rey and in a commanding position in La Liga with just seven games to go.
Glorious run ends
Barça managed to go 24 games without losing in 2025, winning 20 of them and drawing just four across four different competitions. That was the fifth longest such run in club history and matched the amazing form under Frank Rijkaard in 2005/2006.
It means that the 39-game streak under Luis Enrique, at least for now, remains the all-time record.
Tek finally beaten
Tuesday also brought the first ever Barça defeat with Szczęsny in goal. No fewer than 22 games onward from his debut ended with the Polish goalkeeper on the winning team. That was one of the longest opening runs ever for a Barça player, topped only by Cruyff (by one goal), by Paulinho (3), and by Cesc Fàbregas (8).
