Another great night in the Santiago Bernabéu

Another great night in the Santiago Bernabéu

After the 4-0 win on Sunday at Real Madrid, we look back at some other great performances at the stadium

A great win in the Clásico and a tremendous evening for Barça in the Santiago Bernabéu after their 4-0 win over Real Madrid. Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and strikes from Araujo and Ferran handed the blaugranes three important points in a game in which Xavi's team could have scored more.

Sunday's performance brought to mind other memorable matches involving Barça at the Santiago Bernabéu.

5-0 in 1974

The first great memorable win at Real Madrid's ground came on 17 February 1974. Two goals from Asensi and strikes from Cruyff, Juan Carlos and Sotil gave Barça a 5-0 win that could have been bigger.

Ronaldinho gets the Bernabéu on its feet

In November 2005, Leo Messi's first ever Clásico, saw Samuel Eto'o open the scoring on 15 minutes. What followed was a legendary display by Brazilian Ronaldinho whose two goals brought applause even from the Real Madrid fans.

The historic 6-2 win

Every Barça fan has the 6-2 win in 2009 etched into their memory. Pep Guardiola's team gave a masterclass in the Bernabéu with goals from Thierry Henry, Puyol, Messi and Piqué turning the game around after Higuaín had given the home side the lead.

2-0 win in the Champions League

Two goals from Leo Messi in the semi-final of the Champions League in 2011 put Barça on course for the final, the Argentine scoring twice in the second half to ensure a first leg advantage.

4-0 again, seven years ago

Another 4-0 win in the Bernabéu came on 21 November 2015. Goals from Iniesta, Neymar and two from Luis Suárez saw Luis Enrique's team overwhelm Real Madrid in the Clásico with Dani Alves, Piqué, Jordi Alba and Sergio all featuring that day just as they did on Sunday.

Messi at the death

Messi's 500th goal as a Barça player handed the blaugranes a late 3-2 win. Casemiro put Real Madrid ahead only for Messi and Rakitic to put Barça in front. James levelled things up for the home side and the points appeared to be shared until Leo produced some last minute magic to win the game for the blaugranes.
