Four great stats from Paris Saint Germain v FC Barcelona that invite optimism

The Catalans dominated the shot count, the approaches ... but couldn't achieve another comeback

The draw at the Parc des Prínces between PSG and Barça didn't produce another miracle for the Catalans, however, Ronald Koeman's men tried hard from the first minute to the last in what was a magnificent performance from the away side.

The chance of a comeback was there throughout a first half when Dembélé was a continuous thorn in the side of the hosts, when Dest hit the post and when Messi had a penalty saved. Barça laid siege to PSG's goal for most of the game, but it wasn't to be on the night.

21 - Barça's total shots

Barça had a total of 21 shots in the match, 10 of them on target. Only Leo Messi's long-range missile found the net.

If we look at PSG's statistics, Pochettino's side only had a total of seven shots in the game and just three on target.

9 - Navas' stops

Keylor Navas made a total of nine saves, some spectacular. For his part, Ter Stegen only had two shots to repel, as all of the action remained at the PSG end of the pitch.

49 - Barcelona's actions in PSG's penalty area

To evidence how dominant the visitors were, Barça managed to accumulate 49 offensive actions inside PSG's area. By contrast, the French side only managed nine separate approaches into the visitors' area.

72.2% - Barça possession

Barça monopolised the offensive statistics and dominated the match in general, without success. PSG only touched ball sporadicly and, in fact, they only enjoyed 27.8% possession.

Despite failing to achieve the comeback that their performance deserved, Ronald Koeman's men gave a hugely impressive account of themselves. If Messi had scored the penalty or if Dest hadn't hit the post, things could've been different.
