Sergiño Dest, first American to play in El Clásico

This is the first time a footballer from the U.S. has played in this fixture in its 118-year history

This Saturday Sergiño Dest became the first American to play in a game between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the fixture's 118-year history.

At the end of the match, Dest admitted that he was "happy to play in it but sad to have lost it." Regarding the questionable penalty, Barça's No.2 admitted that he hadn't seen it clearly.

Dest, with an American father and a Dutch mother, is the first American footballer to be part of the FC Barcelona first team squad. His official debut came in the final minutes of Barça v Sevilla match, when he played on the left due to the injury to Jordi Alba.

Konrad de la Fuente was the first to debut

There is another American footballer, however, who was the first to play a friendly match for Barça. On September 12, Konrad de la Fuente, the current Barça B player, made his debut with the first team in the first pre-season friendly against Nàstic de Tarragona.
