Barça B 1-1 CD Castellón: Bittersweet start to 2019

Unbeaten run stretched to seven games, but the Catalans will feel they deserved all three points on Sunday afternoon at the Miniestadi

Barça B have collected their first point of 2019 with a 1-1 draw against CD Castellón at the Miniestadi, but will feel somewhat short-changed judging by events on the field.

They dominated the first half, and Ballou and Riqui Puig had both come close with shots from outside the area before Collado finally did open the scoring after 22 minutes following a long series of possession and a cracking finish.

But an unfortunate Mujica put the ball in his own net from a corner just six minutes later in what would turn out to be the only other goal of the game.

Busquets, Mujica and Wague all had chances before the break as their Valencian guests were pushed further and further back into their own half.

The blaugrana dominance continued into the second 45 minutes, but the home side were unable to turn a number of fine chances into the all-important goal.

Carlos Pérez sent one of the best of those narrowly wide, Pablo Roig would have re-established the lead had Iñaki Peña not produced a spectacular save, and Araujo swerved a free-kick onto the post.

The game broke down in the final minutes, with both sides giving it all they could to snatch a late winner, but it was all to no avail.

That’s now seven games without defeat for the reserves, who are now three points adrift of the promotion zone.
