Speaking after his side had won 2-0 at Málaga on Saturday night, Ernesto Valverde summed affairs up by saying that “we had a great first half, every time we crossed the half-way line we were causing danger. They were hoping to cause damage on the counter attack with their quick players going forward, but we controlled things well.”

“In the second half the game fell off a bit. We wanted to score a third to avoid any scares, but in the end the inertia got us thinking that it might make more sense to be more sparing.”

“That’s one game less to go and we’ve managed to hold onto our lead on the rest. They were three important points and we had to go out there and win them.”

As for individuals, the Barça boss singled out Ousmane Dembélé, saying “he got his runs right and lost his markers well. And the way he takes on players is great for breaking up defences. He was more successful today but he’s never afraid to take men on. We need players like that, who have speed and can find space. And he can set up goals too.”
