FC Barcelona ended the first round of the league season with a 4-0 win at Eibar, and much of the praise had to go to the heroics of goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen.

While Denis Suárez, Leo Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar Jr took the plaudits for their goals, the German stopper made a number of saves to keep Eibar at bay.

Eibar arguably had the better chances to score in the opening stages, and Ter Stegen’s save on 25 minutes with the score level to deny Adrián proved vital. Moments later, he would also deny Pedro León, and then again in the closing stages of the game with an excellent one-handed stop.

Second best record

At the midway point of the season, Ter Stegen is second in the Zamora standings in La Liga, with just 13 goals conceded in 17 games (0.76 per game). Only Villarreal’s Sergio Asenjo is above him with 14 goals conceded in 19 games (0.74 per game).
