The Brazilian striker was a key piece in the 1996/97 season, when he led the team to championships in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup

This Saturday marks 20 years since the Brazilian striker Ronaldo Luis Nazario da Lima made his FC Barcelona debut. On 20 August 1996, the 20-year-old phenom, who would play just one season at Barça, took the field to much fanfare before proceeding to meet the lofty expectations that arrived along with him.

The young Brazilian scored a total of 34 goals in 37 league games in the 1996/97 season, a Club record that would stand until Lionel Messi broke it in 2009/10.

In his lone season donning the Blaugrana shirt, the man known simply as Ronaldo would mark an entire era. He won the FIFA World Player award and provided a plethora of jaw-dropping goals to whet any culer's appetite.

Perhaps his most memorable Barça moment came that season in Compostela, where he stole the ball from an opponent in midfield and dispatched every defender that came his way before finding the net.

Ronaldo's 47 goals in 49 games helped lead the Bobby Robson-coached-side to titles in the Copa del Rey, the Cup Winners' Cup, and the Spanish Super Cup.
