Following the 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, Luis Suárez gave his opinion on the game that saw his side come moments away from winning.

Talking of Sergio Ramos’ late headed leveller, the Uruguayan, who had put Barça ahead earlier in the game, said: “When you don’t close the game by making it 2-0, this can happen. We must become strong at home; now what we must do is continue and see if Madrid can lose some points.”

Club captain Andrés Iniesta made his return from injury, was disappointed with the result: “The feeling we have is a painful one, because of the equalising goal. Beyond that moment, we had done enough to win”.

Iniesta, aware of the importance of the match, said: “We had a dangerous opponent in front of us and the first 45 minutes we controlled the game well. We did not make many chances, but it was a great game for the team.”

The midfielder spoke about his recovery from the injury he suffered at the Mestalla on 22 October: “The pace of the game is always different to training. The time that I played I felt good, now it is a matter of continuing.”

André Gomes:

“It’s understandable that we’re upset. It was an important game against a direct opponent”.

“We have to keep improving. There are a lot of games still to go and a lot of league left to fight for”.

Gerard Piqué:

“Real Madrid are very strong on high balls and we should have kept it tighter at the back – we needed to grit our teeth and stop them from shooting”.

“We are doing fine. We played better. The most important thing was for us to compete and that’s what we did”.

“There’s a lot of league still to go and there have been all kinds of championships in the past. We can keep going and turn this around. It all depends on us”.

Ivan Rakitić:

“It hurts. But that’s what the Clásico is all about. We had it all under control and there was never any danger”.

“Things were feeling fine out on the pitch because we came so close to scoring the second goal”.
