Luis Enrique Martínez was beaming.

“I’m very satisfied,” he said following FC Barcelona’s 5–2 Copa del Rey rout over Real Sociedad on Thursday night at Camp Nou that, when coupled with last week’s 1–0 triumph in the first leg at Anoeta, handed them a 6–2 aggregate victory that ushers them into the semifinals for the seventh straight season.

After all, “when you consider the difficulty of the opponent,” winning by that kind of margin is impressive, Luis Enrique explained, while, in the process, heaping praise on both teams.

“They’re dangerous with the ball,” he said. “And they’re dangerous without the ball.”

But, he said rhetorically, “in the final meters, if you have space and if you have Leo Messi in the vicinity…”

Here are the highlights of what Luis Enrique had to say at his post-game press conference.

On Real Sociedad:

“Along with us, they’re one of the most in-form sides in Spanish football.”

On who he’d like to face in the final, should Barça qualify:

“I’d like to see a Barça–Celta final.”

On the keys to the 5–2 victory:

“We made better decisions in the second half.”

On the performance of Denis Suárez, who scored two goals:

“He played great. One of his major virtues is his ability to penetrate from the second line and his presence in the penalty area.”
