Edgar Davids: 'I hope Barça are able to turn the PSG tie around'

The Dutch midfielder hopes the Club stays true to its style of play in the return leg of the Champions League tie against PSG

Edgar Davids spoke to the Club’s media outlets ahead of the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain: “Things happen because we are all humans and we all have ups and downs. I hope they can turn it around and that they can focus on the match so they can celebrate at the end of the season.” The Surinamese-born midfielder played for the Catalans during the 2003/04 campaign and he highlighted the need to “maintain the style of play which defines Barça as it is not about how you fall down but about how quickly you can get back up again.”

Davids is currently coaching the Football League Two side Barnet FC in England having retired from playing in 2013. On the subject of Luis Enrique’s decision to leave the club in the summer, he said the following: “It is a very personal decision, the coach needs to know when it is time to go and when he should stay. Therefore, I hope he has made the right decision.” The ex-Barça player also added: “He will leave a big hole as there are not many managers who would like to take on this responsibility.”

On the Club’s search for Luis Enrique’s replacement, he concluded: “What I most like about Barça is that they give opportunities to their old players. Nowadays, club’s always look for someone from outside but Barça try and promote home-grown coaches, which is a very good decision.”
