Denis Suárez and the road back to FC Barcelona

Denis Suárez and the road back to FC Barcelona

The midfielder returns to the Camp Nou after picking up top flight experience at Sevilla and Villarreal

After playing youth football at Celta and Manchester City, Denis Suárez joined Barça B in 2013, for whom he played 36 games, scoring seven goals and providing eleven assists in Division 2 A.

Like any player in the Barcelona reserves, his target was to move across the road from the Miniestadi and play at the Camp Nou. And he has done just that, but with stops at Sevilla and Villarreal in between.

Denis Suárez went to Andalusia on loan, and made 46 official appearances in his time at Sevilla, 25 times as a starter. He also scored six goals and supplied five assists and won his first major senior honour, the Europa League.

He got even more first team experience after moving to Villarreal, who he joined after the club struck a transfer agreement with Barça. Suárez made 48 appearances, 36 times in the starting line-up including 13 games in the Europa League, where the ‘Yellow Submarine’ made it as far as the semi-finals. In his season at El Madrigal, he scored five goals and made eleven assists.

After those two excellent seasons in the Sevilla white and the Villarreal yellow, Denis Suárez has more than proved his worth. And now he’s back at Barça, who have exercised their option to buy the attacking midfielder back in time for the 2016/127 season.
