Reus Deportiu 2-1 FC Barcelona B: Defeat in the Catalan derby

The reserves dominate most of the possession but the home side take their chances better and claim all three points from a lively second division clash

The Barça reserves were beaten on Saturday afternoon, 2-1 at Reus Deportiu in a Catalan derby where Gerard López’s side dominated most of the game but the home side took their chances. Aleñá carried much of the weight of the team, and goalscorer Arnaiz was also outstanding, as was De Galarreta with less fortune in front of goal as the points slipped away in the second half.

The first half was a monologue of Barça football, but the goal attempts were largely speculative long range strikes that went unrewarded. Then a frantic last five minutes saw David Haro hit the net against the run of play, before Arnaiz, who had scored for the first team in the cup midweek, quickly got things back level from the penalty spot.

Barça were less inspired after the break, and instead it was Reus who were getting the chances, and it was third time lucky when they re-established their lead.

The blaugrana based their response on long periods of possession, with Aleñá conducting the orchestra and coming frustratingly close to converting an equaliser. But the second goal didn’t want to come and that was the seventh defeat for Barça B in the second division so far.
