Igualada Rigat HC 1-3 Barça: Spanish Super Cup champions!
The 2025 Spanish Super Cup goes to the blaugranes! Barça overcame host team Igualada Rigat HC 1-3 in the final played at the Poliesportiu Les Comes in Anoia. Marc Grau, Ignacio Alabart and Eloi Cervera scored the goals to help claim the first trophy under coach Ricard Ares.
Frenetic start matched
The blaugranes came out firing as in the semi-final, having three shots in the first 90 seconds, including a Marc Grau effort that was disallowed. It was to and fro, which made scoring difficult, and Ricard Ares called a time out to make attacking adjustments.
The home side grew into the game and had their chances, but they were thwarted by an inspired Sergi Fernández in goal, who made six first half saves. This resilience formed the platform for Marc Grau to break the deadlock to make it 0-1 (min 21) from a rebound. A vital goal to go in one up at half time.
Alabart and Cervera extend the lead
Marc Grau's goal emboldened Barça, who remained solid before Ignacio Alabart scored the second after a moment of quality when one-on-one (0-2, min 32). A tough blow for the hosts, which got worse when Eloi Cervera scored with a fine shot (0-3, min 40).
Super Cup in the bag
Igualada kept going until the end though, and got one back with seven minutes to go through Marc González (1-3, min 43) to give them renewed hope. However, the blaugranes remained calm, using possession to stymie the local side's efforts. All the same, a great Sergi Fernández stop at the far post was needed and Barça had to resist a late push with a fly keeper to confirm their achievement as Spanish Super Cup champions!
That's now 15 Spanish Super Cups for Barça and the fourth in a row. Next up, the debut in the OK Liga on Friday at 9.00pm CEST, again against Igualada Rigat and again at the same venue.
