Barça have struck first in the League final, beating Liceo 6-3 at the Palau Blaugrana. Although the Galicians opened the scoring through Arnau Xaus in the 2nd minute, Ignacio Alabart quickly levelled and, just before the break, fired in again for a 2-1 half-time lead.

The evening began with Barça director Xavier Barbany honouring Matías Pascual, who leaves the club after 12 seasons and 37 trophies.

Dominant display

After conceding, Barça took control: long spells of possession, two efforts off the bar from Ferran Font and Marc Grau, and several big saves at both ends, Carles Grau for Barça, Martí Serra for Liceo.

Barça’s dominance told after the restart. Font made it 3-1 on 37', seconds after Alabart missed a direct free-hit, and Eloi Cervera added a fourth. Liceo pulled one back (Saavedra, 43 mins), but a penalty converted by Pablo Álvarez restored the cushion. Xaus struck again late on, only for Sergi Llorca to seal it 6-3.

Goalkeeper Carles Grau’s saves, including a double stop on a 40th-minute direct free-hit while Barça were a man down, kept the visitors at bay.

Game two is on Monday 16 June, at 8.30pm CEST in the Palau Blaugrana, where Barça will try to extend their lead in the best-of-five-series.
