Over a hundred players take part in the tournament, including Antoni Guil, president of the Confederation
Golf La Roca Barcelona was the venue on Sunday for the II Open Golf Penyes del Barça, a competition open to FC Barcelona members and supporters club that drew an entry list of over 100 players. Co-organised with the World Confederation of Penyes, presided by Antoni Guil, and the Barcelonès East Federation, presided by Jordi Monturiol, former Barça stars Hristo Stoichkov, Paco Martínez, José Ramón Alexanko and Jesús Mariano Angoy were among the entrants.
Any players with a golf license and official handicap were able to join in a day that combined sport with the famous Barça values. People did not have to be members of a penya to take part in, but those who were got a 20% discount on their green fee and the highest scorer would get to play in the traditional pre-Clásico Barça-Madrid golf challenge between fans of the two rival clubs this Thursday 25 on the Costa Daurada. The man who will be presenting the Barça supporters club movement was revealed to be Francesc Ibáñez of Penya de Torroella de Montgrí.
Antoni Guil oversaw the event by welcoming the players, and there was food for everyone once it was over, and a prize giving ceremony led by Xavier Ilincheta, member of the Penyes Commission. The winners were: in the High Handicap category, Jordi Gilabert; in Low Handicap, Roger Carbonell; in Women’s, Nakao Kumico; and in Scratch, Hernán Andreano.
Represented penyes were Montcada, Santa Coloma, Torroella, Sant Cugat, Matinera, Wembley, Cor Culé, Chema Corbella de Nalec, La Guineu and Foment Martinenc, and those of Pep Ventura de Badalona, la Teixoneia and Trinitat Vella also attended. Famous people associated to FC Barcelona also took part, such as Chema Corbella, Josep M. Minguella, Jordi Gonzalvo and the actor Jordi Rios.
