Espanyol B 1-0 Barça B: Luckless derby

Parakeets take early need and try as they did, the blaugrana just couldn't turn chances into goals and saw their seven-match unbeaten run come to an end

Barça B have lost 1-0 to Espanyol B in the reserve team version of the city derby. The ‘parakeets’ took the lead after 14 minutes, and despite doing all they could and more, the blaugrana were unable to stretch their unbeaten run to eight games.

The result sees Barça B drop to sixth, while the blue-and-whites have risen to fourth in Division 2B Group III.

Campuzano’s goal off a rebound came in the home side’s first attack, and was followed by a further setback when Sarsanedas hobbled off injured.

A flood of chances followed but the final touches were missing. Things swung very much back in Barça B’s favour when Espanyol’s Pol Lozano was sent off for a second bookable offence – but not even with an extra man were Barça able to get the goal they needed.

Luck just wasn’t on their side, and when Monchu headed a fine chance onto the bar with four minutes left, that was the story of today’s game all over. It was just one of those days, and Espanyol won the derby bragging rights.
