Final day of Champions League qualifiers

With just one day to go before the Champions League group stage draw, the three remaining places are set to be decided on Wednesday night

The 2018/19 Champions League is taking shape. After Young Boys (Switzerland), AEK Athens (Greece) and Ajax Amsterdam (Holland) secured passage to the group stage on Tuesday night, there are just three more places to be confirmed in Thursday's draw (6.00pm CET).

The last three names will be decided in three fascinating fixtures on Wednesday evening:

  • Red Bull Salzburg (Austria) v Red Star Belgrade (Serbia) (first leg ended 0-0)
  • PSV Eindhoven (Holland) v BATE Borisov (Belarus) (3-2)
  • PAOK (Greece) v Benfica (Portugal) (1-1)

Pots of gold

In the group stage draw, Pot 1 will consist of the champions of the six leagues with the best coefficient (which includes ourselves as Liga winners), as well as last season's Champions League and Europa League winners (which are both Spanish teams that we cannot meet). The teams are currently divided into the following pots:

Pot 1: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, París Saint-Germain and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Pot 2: Borussia Dortmund, Porto, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Napoli, Tottenham Hotspur and Roma (one additional team to be confirmed).

Pot 3: Schalke 04, Olympique Lyon, Monaco, Ajax Amsterdam and CSKA Moscow (three additional teams to be confirmed).

Pot 4: Club Brugge, Galatasaray, Internazionale, Young Boys, AEK Athens and Hoffenheim (two additional teams to be confirmed).

Still to be confirmed: Liverpool (to go in either Pot 2 or 3); Valencia and Viktoria Pilsen (Pot 3 or 4) and the three teams to progress from the playoffs.
