Camp Nou to hold world’s most important football medicine and science congress

26th edition of the International Conference on Sports Rehabilitation and Traumatology to be held from 13 to 15 May 2017, with an expected attendance of over 2,000 delegates from more than 65 countries

The Camp Nou is to become the hub for sports science and football medicine next May as it hosts the world’s most important congress in the field.

The International Conference on Sports Rehabilitation and Traumatology, organised by the Isokinetic Medical Group in association with FIFA and with the support of FC Barcelona has reached its 26th edition after consolidating its position as a world-leading event. The conference will be held for its first time to Barcelona, whereas the previous editions were held in London and in Italy.

The topic of the conference will be ‘The future of Football Medicine’, and represents a unique opportunity to find synergies between the innovative ideas of young specialists and the experience of some of the most renowned professionals in this field.

The congress is a huge challenge to organise, as it is expected to draw an attendance of over 2,000 delegates from the football medicine community (doctors, physiotherapists and fitness coaches) coming from more than 65 countries. The international attractiveness of Barcelona and the huge experience of the club in organising all kinds of events, guarantees the success of the event.

FC Barcelona, Isokinetic and FIFA together organising the largest event in Football Medicine

For FC Barcelona, the conference is a club’s strategic objective to set new standards in the world of sport through the FCB Coneixement project for the research, generation, transmission and transfer of information and knowledge.

The Isokinetic Medical Group is an internationally recognised leader in the fields of sports injury treatment, orthopedic rehabilitation and research with over 30 years’ experience successfully treating patients in their 8 clinics around Europe.

The conference programme also includes the annual meeting of the FIFA Medical Centres of Excellence (FMCE) which groups 49 centre worldwide and 211 member associations, under the auspices of F-MARC (FIFA Medical Assessment and Research Centre). This FIFA body was founded in 1994 to protect the health of all players and promote football as a healthy leisure activity. Isokinetic Medical Group has been the 11th FMCE to be awarded, in 2009. The FC Barcelona medical services has become part of this group since 2013, being certified as a FMCE, thereby becoming the first football club to receive this acknowledgment.

The congress will also include the 9th edition of the MuscleTech Network that FC Barcelona organises each year, and that has set new worldwide standards as the forum that brings together researchers, doctors, physiotherapists and fitness coaches to exchange and discuss the latest trends and innovations in the field of muscle and tendon injuries in sport.
