Andrés Iniesta laments dropped points

The FC Barcelona captain makes an assist but feels the team merits more than a draw against Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou

FC Barcelona had to settle for a draw against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday night at the Camp Nou, after Ivan Rakitic’s first-half header was cancelled out by Angel Correa’s goal in the second period.

Club captain Andrés Iniesta played a killer cross for the Croatian to put Barça in the lead just before half-time but ultimately it was not enough to take home the three points. Here’s what the midfield maestro, as well as others, had to say about the game:

Andrés Iniesta

Iniesta feels the team played “a complete game” and the performance “was enough to give us the victory” against a team that “always makes life difficult”.

The no.8 feels the team “failed to pull off the small details on more occasions” before lamenting the fact that “it’s a shame to let points slip at home”.

Sergi Roberto

“Atlético are a complicated opponent, they close up at the back. It was disappointing to draw.”

“When your most important player has to go off, it affects you. But we have a great squad and those that come on from the bench always provide something positive.”

“Now we must think about the weekend’s game and give 100 per cent.”

Luis Suárez

“We leave with the feeling that we could have won.”

“The duels against Atlético defenders are always difficult.”

“It was bad to lose Messi because he is so important. But it was also bad to draw at home. We are in Week 5, and this season is long. However, it would have been nice to reduce the gap with the leader.”
