Real Madrid v FC Barcelona Lassa: Rice heroics guide Barça to the final (93-99)

Georgios Bartzokas' pull off big derby and will play the Super Cup final against Gran Canaria

FC Barcelona Lassa booked their place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup with a heroic display against Real Madrid (93-99) at the Buesa Arena on Friday night.

Led by an inspired Tyrece Rice, who racked up 30 points on the night, Barça will now compete for the season’s first piece of silverware against Herbalife Gran Canaria on Saturday (7.00pm CET).

The match started out very evenly, with both teams rather reserved in attack. Five trebles from Madrid, and eleven points from Rice were the standout features of an equal first quarter (26-26).

Barça started the second poorly, with Madrid gaining a 10-1 lead, but Ante Tomic and Rice combined to get Georgios Bartzokas’ side right back in it, ending the first half 48-47.

The two team’s continued to match each other almost stride-for-stride at the start of the second half, until Rice again began to have more of an impact on matters after recovering from an injury scare. He, along with Tomic and Claver helped Barça get their noses in front at the end of the third (70-73).

The toing and froing on the scoreboard continued into the fourth, but that man Rice proved to be the separating factor. Llull managed to keep Madrid alive right until the end, but Rice’s quality helped Barça over the line and into the final, 93-99.

Barça will now take on Herbalife Gran Canaria, who beat Baskonia 84-80, in Saturday’s final.
