FC Barcelona Lassa v Olympiacos: Last minute heartache (67-69)

The hosts suffer late defeat against the Greek giants despite a valiant effort at the Palau blaugrana

FC Barcelona Lassa suffered a painful loss on Thursday night at the Palau Blaugrana, losing out 67-69 against Olympiacos in the very last minute.

It was a fairly evenly contested opening period with two competitive sides matching each other almost stride for stride but with the home side just edging it.

The likes of Doellman, Rice and Navarro got points on the board to help the home side get their noses in front (20-17, min 10).

A similar story followed in the second, as Koponen picked up the mantle of team leader, while Dorsey also impressed (33-29, min 20).

The third saw Barça slightly ruffled by the combative Greeks, with the likes of Sfairopoulos and Printezis proving tough to handle, and despite the efforts of Rice and Koponen, the visitors went 54-56 ahead going into the final quarter.

In what was a tense fourth period, Barça managed to get six points ahead at one stage, but such was the nature of the game that it was quickly pegged back to all square (67-67) shortly after.

And in the very last minute, Barça were dealt a cruel blow as Mantzaris’ free throws coupled with Rice’s inability to strike at the end meant the Greeks left victors in a tense game.
