FC Barcelona Lassa v UCAM Múrcia: Late but great (73-70)

Bartzokas’ side earn the victory with little time left on the clock to continue the fight for first place in the table

FC Barcelona Lassa earned a hard-fought late victory over UCAM Múrcia on Sunday to remain in the hunt for the league title.

The visit of Múrcia was never going to be easy, and it took grit and determination until the very last seconds of the game to earn the vital win.

Barça raced to a 7-0 lead early on but the visitors went on an eight-point streak of their own, eventually taking the first quarter 14-15.

Two consecutive trebles from Renfroe and Eriksson again saw the blaugrana take a seven-point lead while they raced to their biggest advantage of the day (29-18) on 16 minutes. Koponen and Vezenkov continued the side’s offensive purple patch to 36-23 ahead but a decent fight-back from Múrcia saw the half end 38-33.

In the third quarter, Katsirakis’ men turned things around (54-55) but Rice’s back-to-back three-pointers at the start of the final period set Barça on their way.

Free-throws from Faverani, four from Koponen, one by Oleson and two more from Vezenkov late on eventually sealed the game for the hosts.
