The FC Barcelona coach reacts to 3-0 defeat in Turin by admitting that the first half performance was poor “but in the second we created chances but were missing that little bit of luck"
Barça have lost 3-0 in Turin in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final second leg. Manager Luis Enrique did nothing to hide his frustration at a result he admits brings back haunting memories of the similar loss in Paris. But Barça turned thinsg around that time, and he's ready to start preparing for a second miracle in the return leg at Camp Nou.
Here's a round of post-match quotes from the FCB boss:
“It doesn’t matter whether it was a fair result or not – that was the result. It was like living the nightmare all over again – a nightmare that all Barça fans went through already not so long ago ... We were impotent in the first half, not good enough in the second.”
“We have to work out in detail where it all went wrong. Our positioning wasn’t up to the required level. We were lacking intensity and you can’t afford to do that against Juventus in the Champions League.”
“But in the second half we were as good as, if not better than, Juve. We got the ball moving better, created clear chances, but we didn’t have that little bit of luck that you always need.”
“But it’s the first half that I can’t get out of my head. It’s such a shame because I know how much the players wanted to get out there and compete.”
“I won’t compare Juventus to the team we beat in the 2015 final, but what I will say is that today we saw a very nice team. They played top quality, intense football. Bringing the ball out from the back, creating pressure up front – and Dani Alves was doing what he has always done and I congratulate him.”
“Tomorrow we will all meet up again and think about what we have to do. I’m 100% accepting responsibility for what happened tonight. Now it’s time to think about planning for another comeback.”
“If we play as well as we can, we can score four goals against anyone,”
