FC Barcelona Women – Avaldsnes IL: Into the last 16 (2-0)
The blaugranes took a comfortable win the second leg against the Norwegian side thanks to goals from Martens and Losada to move into the last 16 6-0 on aggregate
Great win in the Miniestadi from Barça Women. The blaugranes are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after beating Avaldsnes IL 2-0 in the second leg of their of tie thanks to goals from Lieke Martens and Vicky Losada. The victory gave Fran Sánchez’s side a 6-0 win on aggregate following on from their 4-0 win in the first leg
Despite their excellent result from the game in Norway, the blaugranes did not let up in the second leg in Barcelona. Patri Guijarro went close in the opening minutes as the home side took the game to the visitors. Avaldsnes sat back and soaked up the pressure as Toni Duggan and Losada also threatened to open the scoring for the home side.
In the second half the game took a different turn. With just six minutes gone a free kick from Vicky Losada was turned in by Lieke Martens to make it 1-0 to Barça. A little over five minutes later it was 2-0. Mariona came down the right hand side and Losada hit a first time shot to double the home side’s advantage.
With the game and the tie in the bag, Barça Women controlled the match with ease. Vicky Losada, one of the women of the game, could have added to the final score as could have Duggan and Olga in the final minutes. Nevertheless, a 2-0 win was more than sufficient to send FC Barcelona Women into the last 16 of the Champions League.
