Valencia CF Women – FC Barcelona Women: A very effective Barça seal the three points at Paterna (1-4)

Natasa Andonova scored an Olympic goal in a match that was decided after a great first half

A very effective Barça Women’s side defeated Valencia with goals from Mapi León, Lieke Martens, Marta Torrejón and Andonova; the latter the author of an Olympic goal in the second half. Fran Sánchez’s side recovered from the defeat against Athletic last week to win a game that keeps them alive in the fight for the League title.

Mapi León took just four minutes to open the scoring at the Antonio Puchades Stadium, and the visitors constant attacking thrust saw them dominate play. In the 34th minute, Lieke Martens latched on to a wonderful pass from Alexia to double Barça’s lead, and there was still time before the break for Marta Torrejón to make the game safe.

In the second half Barça Women controlled possession, and although Martens had several chances, she was unable to add to her tally.

Andonova’s magic

In the 61st minute, the Macedonian midfielder scored with a strike that will surely be seen around the world; an Olympic goal direct from a corner that surprised the Valencian goalkeeper and the entire stadium. Valencia would have the last word, Marta Peiró grabbing a consolation in the last minute.
