For the past two years, Iskandar has proven to be one of the most committed members of Barça Academy Singapore. His story isn't just special because of how he is developing as a player, but rather the effort that goes into attending every training session. Living in Malaysia, Iskandar crosses the border into Singapore several times every week for training. Many players take just minutes to get to the pitch, while Iskandar and his mother Yati regularly spend over 90 minutes travelling each way, often through dense traffic and facing long queues at passport control. All the same, they rarely miss a session despite the difficulties.
Behind each training session, there is the unwavering support from his mother, who remains patiently by her son's side as he follows his football passion and continues to learn the Barça way. The commitment is a powerful reminder that a player's development often comes via solid family support.
Outstanding attitude
Throughout those two years, Iskandar has shown outstanding dedication and discipline, and a positive atttiude. Whether during training, matches, tournaments or academy activities, he always show the values that Barça instil in players – humility, hard work, respect and perseverance.
His football journey has already provided him with some memorable moments. One of those was getting the chance to meet Antonio Olmo, former FC Barcelona player and captain, creating a inspirational connection between the rich history of Barça and the next generation of young players who dream about taking a similar path.
Academic recognition
Iskandar was also recently recognised away from football on receiving an academic award that reflects the same qualities he shows on the pitch – commitment, responsibility and determination, evidence that the values developed through sport can have a positive impact on every facet of life. Each journey from Malaysia to Singapore represents another step in his development, and each training session is testament to the dedication showed by both Iskandar and his mother.
