At just 25 years of age, Anthony Gordon can already boast a number of records achieved throughout his career. Particularly at Newcastle United, where, wearing the number 10 shirt, he has earned respect and admiration thanks to a series of outstanding performances.

Champions League legacy

His finest nights have typically come in the UEFA Champions League. He became the first player in Newcastle’s history to score in three consecutive matches in the competition after finding the net in the opening three games of this season’s edition, against FC Barcelona, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Benfica.

Four goals in 45 minutes

His best performance in Europe, however, was not one of those. Just over three months ago, on 18 February, he became only the second player in Champions League history to score four goals in the first half of a match. He achieved the feat away to Qarabağ FK in the first leg of the play-off round, a game Newcastle went on to win 6-1.

Following Shearer and Kane

The 10 goals Gordon has scored in Europe this season have led to two more historic milestones. Firstly, he is now Newcastle’s second-highest scorer in the Champions League, behind only Alan Shearer. Secondly, he has become just the second English player to reach double figures for goals in a single Champions League campaign, matching a feat previously achieved only by Harry Kane.
