FC Barcelona has unveiled the Easter cake for CAT, the Club’s charismatic mascot, at Casa SEAT, offering an afternoon full of creativity and fun for children, families, and fans. The event was conceived as a festive, family‑friendly experience to bring the Club closer to the community at a special time like Easter, strengthening emotional ties with local traditions.
The event was attended by Josep Cubells, Vice President and Secretary of the FC Barcelona Board of Directors; Paloma Mikadze, Director of Barça Identity and Barça Media 360; renowned pastry chef Christian Escribà, creator of the original mona recipe; and brothers Carles and Jordi Grangel, collaborators in the creation of CAT.
Projects that connect with fans and emotions
The development of CAT is part of a broader FC Barcelona strategy aimed at creating projects and initiatives that connect directly with fans, appealing to emotions and generating memorable experiences. As such, the Club is working to build a narrative that extends beyond sport, reaching into people’s everyday lives and strengthening their sense of belonging.
In the case of the Easter cake, this connection is especially evident among the youngest fans, who find in CAT a friendly, fun, and recognisable figure. Through initiatives like this, the Club not only invites family participation but also cultivates emotional bonds with new generations of culers, turning traditional moments into shared experiences full of meaning.
The official CAT Easter cake, created by Christian Escribà, represents a unique interpretation of the mascot, combining creativity, tradition, and blaugrana identity. The piece symbolises the Club’s desire to innovate within cultural and gastronomic spheres as well, reimagining such a deeply rooted tradition as the Easter cake from a contemporary and distinctly Barça perspective.
The creation is priced at €110, conceived as a special gift for families and children. Units are limited and will be available at Escribà Gran Via and Escribà La Rambla during Easter week.
The unveiling: the highlight of the event
The central moment of the event was the official unveiling of the Easter cake. Speaking on behalf of FC Barcelona, Cubells expressed his appreciation and explained that the cake will be displayed at the Barça Museum throughout April, but will first be showcased during Easter week at Christian Escribà’s workshop, allowing more families to enjoy the creation. Therefore, the initiative goes beyond a one‑day event and stretches over time, keeping the Easter spirit alive within the blaugrana universe.
The event concluded with an open social gathering, offering a joyful and creative experience for attendees. With its dual nature as an institutional symbol and approachable character, CAT embodies the FC Barcelona values of effort, ambition, humility, respect, and teamwork. Through initiatives like this, the Club reaffirms its commitment to integrating tradition, innovation, and identity in all its actions, consolidating CAT as a strategic asset with unlimited potential for growth.
FC Barcelona and Christian Escribà: a historic bond
Pastelería Escribà, a leading representative of Catalan pastry tradition and known for turning the Easter cake into an art form, has a long standing relationship with FC Barcelona that spans over 70 years. Their collaboration includes the creation of birthday cakes for the Club and special creations dedicated to legendary figures such as Cruyff, Maradona, Romário, Eto’o, and Messi, among others.

CAT as a symbol of Barça identity
CAT is much more than a mascot. As is well known, its DNA incorporates all the elements that define FC Barcelona: charisma, creativity, leadership, high standards, and an inclusive spirit. With a friendly and positive personality, CAT symbolises modernity and inclusion, without being defined by a specific gender. Its appearance explicitly incorporates Club symbols, such as the pointed shapes of the crest in the ears, the blaugrana and yellow colours, and the four red stripes representing the Club’s Catalan identity. Its presence in a tradition like the Easter cake further strengthens its connection with popular culture and younger generations.
A symbol for a growing brand
In just over a year, CAT has become a true blaugrana phenomenon and a symbol of FC Barcelona’s growth. It engages fans of all ages through its presence at training sessions, matches, institutional events tied to local traditions, and across social media. CAT has evolved from a simple character into a figure of closeness that unifies the Club’s community.
Last December, the Club launched CAT’s first official plush toy, also developed with the creative experience of the Grangel brothers. This product reinforces CAT’s recognisable and accessible universe, while collaborations with other mascots and brands highlight CAT’s inclusive spirit and expanding international reach.
The creation of a dedicated Easter mona represents another step forward, a new milestone in the ongoing development of the CAT project, which continues evolving without limits as a creative platform and a bridge connecting diverse audiences and contexts.
