Precisely one year ago, FC Barcelona welcomed a very special new member to the blaugrana family. CAT was officially presented on 29 November 2024 as part of the Club's 125th anniversary, taking inspiration from local Catalan fauna and it has gone on to conquer FC Barcelona fans' hearts in record time.
Twelve months later, CAT is celebrating its first birthday, having become a symbol of identity, inclusion and joy for every generation of FC Barcelona fans.
An icon who connects with the fans
CAT has become fully involved with Club life since it came on the scene. It has been there for every men's first team home game on Montjuïc, at the Estadi Johan Cruyff and of course, for the return to the Spotify Camp Nou. It didn't miss many women's matches either, whether at the Estadi Johan Cruyff or being there with them for the Champions League final in Lisbon.
And it was there with the professional teams too, at 98 games at the Palau Blaugrana, as well as travelling to Cologne for the handball Champions League Final Four. It has also been present at many Barça institucional events, always bringing its energy and friendliness. It has become a regular fixture on matchdays, saying hi to the youngest fans, lifting the vibe in the stands, and standing for the "more than a club" spirit that defines Barça. CAT has also been front and centre at social, inclusive, identity and cultural events.
CAT has become a true legend online: its Instagram and TikTok accounts have thousands of followers, with its videos showing its charisma inside and outside the stadium having been viewed millions of times.
A symbol of being Catalan and creativity
CAT has also become an established ambassador for Catalan identity. Its name is in tribute to the autochthonous cat in Catalonia and as a short form for the country itself, and its design incorporates the blaugrana colours and elements inspired by the Club crest.
it has signed books on Sant Jordi, been involved in Catalan Christmas traditions and created its own Easter egg, to name just a few. It has also been seen dancing at music festivals or enjoying events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Catalonia.
During every appearance it has brought warmth, humour and a touch of magic, becoming one of the most recognisable figures in the blaugrana domain. What's more, the CAT Collection of clothes and toys launched in April 2025 has brought the mascot closer to younger fans, strengthening the ties between blaugrana families and the Club.
A successful year and a promising future
in just twelve months, CAT has gone from being new on the block to a true reference for the FC Barcelona fan community. It represents the joy of being an FC Barcelona fan, inclusion, connection with Catalan culture, and the pride of belonging to a global club that remembers its roots.
With new projects on the horizon, international appearances and more collaborations on the way, CAT goes into its second year with the aim of continuing to inspire the fans, cheering on the team, and keeping the Barça spirit alive both on and off the pitch.
