The Barça Foundation team comprised of individuals with intellectual functional diversity handed over on Monday the trophy to the Barça Museum they claimed as champions of the Compañerismo group in the LaLiga Genuine, a competition in which they took part for the very first time in 2021/22. The players placed the first cup in the team's history in the 'Current' trophy cabinet alongside the 16 trophies won by the Club's professional teams in the 2021/22 season.
The event brought to an end the team's very first year in existence and was attended by president Joan Laporta and Dr.Marta Segú, the director general of the FC Barcelona. "Today Barça is more than a club thanks to you. I would like to say especially because of you. We are very proud and we ask you to continue like this. Now is the most difficult part, staying at the top. Keep paying attention to your coaches to do it," said president Laporta in his speech. "Winning is great but it is not everything. When we say we are a club with values, we are talking about things like this, and you have set an example," he added.
The 24 players (20 men and 4 women) that make up the Barça Foundation team have enjoyed a very positive first season with excellent results also on the field. They have been crowned as champions in the three competitions in which they have taken part. In LaLiga Genuine they were champions of the Compañerismo group and also winner of the DICUP tournament in June played at the Ciutat Esportiva and The Original Challenge tournament which took place in Daytona, Florida, USA between American and European teams in early July.
