Vice-president Antonio Escudero and director Josep Ignasi Macià also present at event doubling as annual meeting of penyas in Asturias and Cantabria

Joan Laporta was in Asturias on Saturday for the 50th anniversary of the Peña Barcelonista Julio Alberto de Mieres del Camino and the third edition of the Penyes Meeting in the Asturias and Cantabria Region.

He was joined by the vice-president of the Social Area, Antonio Escudero, and its director, Josep Ignasi Macià, as well as former Barça star Julio Alberto Moreno, after whom the penya is named, and another former player from Asturias, Ivan Iglesias.

The day began with a reception at the town hall, where the guests were welcomed by local mayor Aníbal José Vázquez, at an event also attended by Matías Alvarez, president of the PB Julio Alberto, and Pablo Asensio, president of the Penyes of Asturias and Cantabria Group.

Following the typical speeches and exchanges of gifts, Laporta signed the book of honour, after which everyone went to visit the Monument to the Miner, where a floral tribute was offered in homage to miners, who are such an important part of the local community.

The next stop was a restaurant in the town of Peón for dinner shared by some 250 supporters club members, where the wonderful atmosphere reflected the healthy state of the Barça penya movement in the region.

Words from president Joan Laporta and Matías Alvarez were followed by the presentation of gifts to the 24 penyas and territorial groups represented at the event.

Laporta reiterated several times the importance of the Assembly on Thursday and the clubs plans to set its finances straight.
