FC Barcelona B 0–2 CE Sabadell: Bitter defeat

Two second half goals spell disappointment for the reserves at the Estadi Johan Cruyff

Goals right at the start and end of the second half of Saturday’s game meant Barça B failed to make it three wins in a row to consolidate their place in the playoff zone. Although they are still well in contention, this setback has complicated matters somewhat and means a win away to Sevilla B in the next game is now more essential than ever.

CE Sabadell were coming into the game in fine form and this was never going to be an easy game. And although the reserves powered into the game and almost scored through both Aranda and Mika Marmol, the ‘Harlequins’ soon started creating pressure of their own. Lazar Carevic made a fabulous save shortly before the break, but just after it he could do nothing to prevent Jocabo putting the visitors ahead from the penalty spot following a Mika Marmol offence.

Sergi Barjuan’s side pressed forth with greater insistence than ever after conceding the first goal, but that always opened up the possibility of a Sabadell counter attack.

Ferran Jutglà had the best off a flurry of chances for the blaugrana, but luck was not on their side, and in injury time Kaxe made the most of a moment of confusion in the home defence to sentence the tie with a second goal for the visitors.
